Finance Trust Bank - Banking services for women

Finance Trust Bank

Banking services for women

Uganda

Finance Trust Bank (FBT) is a Ugandan microfinance bank which gives women access to financial services. The bank was founded in 1984 by a group of women who realized that the reason women were more economically disadvantaged in Uganda was because of their lack of access to financial services. In 2014, FTB had over 200,000 clients, the majority of which were female.

Over the years, the organization has grown and undergone various transformations to additionally include men as clients. However, providing financial access to women on low/middle incomes remains the focus, with at least 60% of the total clientele being women.

FTB’s products are demand-driven. It states to know what its customers want, by listening to them and conducting market research. For instance, a farmer who takes out a loan to buy seeds and who cannot pay back the loan immediately, receives a structured loan with tailored repayment terms.

Finance Trust Bank has been a partner of Oikocredit since 2005.
