Financing more loan groups in northern Lima

Peru

Alternativa, Centro de Investigación Social y Educación Popular (Alternativa) is a non-governmental organization that has been implementing social projects in northern Lima since 1979. Its microfinance programme started in 1994 to support women entrepreneurs in northern Lima.

Alternativa provides loans using the village banking methodology. A typical loan group is composed of around 15 members. Alternativa currently serves around 3,000 clients (2016), mostly in urban areas.

Over the years and in collaboration with local governments, Alternativa has developed a number of social programmes which support local organizations of women entrepreneurs.

Alternativa, Centro de Investigación Social y Educación Popular and Oikocredit are long-standing partners, with collaboration going back to the launch of the microfinance programme in 1994.
