Yehu Microfinance Trust - Empowering rural women in Kenya's coastal region
Yehu Microfinance Trust
Empowering rural women in Kenya's coastal region
The microfinance institution (MFI) Yehu Microfinance Trust (Yehu) offers financial services to more than 17,000 members, around 85% of whom are women in rural areas, to support their socioeconomic development. Yehu Microfinance Trust operates in Kenya's coastal region.
Yehu is rooted in a project initiated in 1998 by the international NGO Choice Humanitarian. Today, it is one of the leading rural MFIs in Kenya. ‘Yehu’ means ‘ours’ in the local coastal dialect and instils a strong sense of ownership.
Yehu offers tailored loans ranging from small monthly advance payments to three-year loans. These loans are disbursed to various micro- and small enterprises, for water and sanitation, trade and consumption. Yehu's products are regularly reviewed to ensure that they meet clients' needs and remain competitive. Thanks to a prudent risk management approach, combined with clear targets and staff responsibilities, its loans have very low default rates.
Yehu Microfinance Trust has been an Oikocredit partner since 2014.
