Instituto Estrela de Fomento ao Microcrédito (Estrela) is a microfinance institution that is registered as an Oscip (NGO). The organisation was founded in 2005 to support micro entrepreneurs in the countryside of the state of Paraiba. It is headquartered in Patos city and has three branches (2017).
Estrela currently offers four types of micro loans, with an average value of around € 450. The MFI has more than 6,000 borrowers and 70% of the loans are issued to women.
Instituto Estrela de Fomento ao Microcrédito has been an Oikocredit partner since 2017.
