Fertiplant East Africa Limited - Promoting the production of local and tailor-made fertilisers
Fertiplant East Africa Limited
Promoting the production of local and tailor-made fertilisers
As Sub-Saharan Africa’s first fertiliser granulation producer Fertiplant East Africa Limited (Fertiplant) aims to improve regional approaches to crop farming.
The company's production plant in Nakuru is set to become operational in 2019 and will employ over 100 staff. The plant will use the latest in-steam granulation technology to produce tailor-made fertiliser combinations for tea, coffee, potatoes and maize farmers in Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania and Burundi.
Oikocredit's partnership with Fertiplant began in 2018 and is aligned with Oikocredit’s mission to invest in organisations that can sustainably improve quality of life for low-income people. Fertiplant’s fertilisers are expected to make a valuable contribution towards improving farm yields and farmers’ incomes, as well as the region’s economy.
Crop and soil-specific fertilisers can also play a crucial role in food security in view of declining arable land, changing weather patterns and a growing population.
